Opening

The meeting was opened by the Vice-President, Lawrence (VA3IQ), at 7:11 pm. There was 1 visitor attending the meeting.

Meeting Agenda

The meeting agenda was displayed prior to the meeting, and is reproduced below. Lawrence (VA3IQ) moved that the agenda be adopted as published. Bert (VE2ZAZ) seconded. A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Secretary’s Report

Bert posted a draft version of the May 2026 regular meeting minutes on the Club website prior to this meeting. Moved by him that the minutes be adopted as posted. The motion was seconded by Robert (VE3BE). A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Glenn (VE3XRA), the Treasurer, was absent. Mike (VA3TEC), our President, is helping out with the Treasurer duties. Mike was also absent.

Vice President’s Report

  • Lawrence is looking for an update on the new City of Ottawa policy on antenna towers. He will report back as he gets more pertinent information.

Robert found a meeting location near the Diefenbunker, with a $55 rental rate for 4 hours. He will look further into it.

2026 June VHF Contest Post-Mortem Discussion

An informal discussion between the members took place. Suggestions for next year’s contest were noted. One key point was the safety and coordination requirements during tower erection.

VHF Contest Post-Mortem discussion

  • Bert thanked all participants in our June VHF Contest outing. The turnout was good, so setup and tear-down went smoothly. The stations were also fully manned for almost all of the contest duration. The renovated Corkery Community Centre was also found to be excellent for our activity.
  • Roger Cormier lost a small size, black finish socket adapter tool. Please look into your toolbox!

Old Business

  • Tuesday evening SSB net: Lawrence (VA3IQ) will take over the duties once his antenna stack and mast are installed, which is currently happening. He is planning on resuming the Net in September, and will be active on four bands and with 25 Watts of output power. Shared net control duties is also considered. Open item.
  • Mike (VA3TEC) to report back on the Club’s finances at the July meeting. Open item
  • Club membership list: Ted (VE3TD) had asked for a membership list for AREDN mapping purpose. Mike (VA3TEC) produced that list and provide it to Ted. Closed item

New Business

  • Lawrence (VA3IQ) mentioned the availability of the Corkery Centre as a location for our Christmas party. Rental fee for the conference room and the kitchen would be $50 for the evening. We will discuss and decide whether to reserve the venue at the July meeting. Open item

Show and tell / Round Table

  • Bert (VE2ZAZ) confirmed the end of CHU-Canada transmissions. He published a video on YouTube that captures the exact moment the 3,330 KHz transmitter was turned off. That link was posted onto the Club’s Facebook page.
