Opening

The meeting was opened by the President, Mike (VA3TEC), at 7:12 pm. There were two visitors attending the meeting.

Meeting Agenda

The meeting agenda was displayed prior to the meeting, and is reproduced below. Lawrence (VA3IQ) moved that the agenda be adopted as published. Randy (VE3AX) seconded. A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Secretary’s Report

Bert posted a draft version of the April 2026 regular meeting minutes on the Club website prior to this meeting. Moved by him that the minutes be adopted as posted. The motion was seconded by Lawrence (VA3IQ). A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Glenn (VE3XRA), the Treasurer, was absent. Mike (VA3TEC), our President, is helping out with the Treasurer duties.

  • Mike made the payment to formalize the Corkery Centre rental for our June VHF Contest.
  • Mike is still not allowed to log into the Alterna account. The Bank is working on the issue. Mike will try to figure out a way to operate, even if access is not granted soon.
  • Mike will report back on the Club’s finances at the July meeting.

Vice President’s Report

  • Lawrence ended up cancelling the May Microwave Activity Day due to insufficient participation.
  • Upcoming monthly meeting presentations:
    • Being planned (speakers shall provide a synopsis of their presentation to Lawrence):
      • Wayne (VE3CZO) - Selecting the right capacitor for an application.
      • Mike (VA3TEC) - IP400 Presentation.
      • Tom (VA3NFA) / Ted (VE3TD) / Lawrence (VA3IQ) - AREDN Status.
      • Lawrence (VA3IQ) - How to not brick AREDN nodes.
      • Lawrence (VA3IQ) - Logging software acting as Rover controller.
  • There is a MeshCore clash between the founders, and there are ongoing legal disputes.

No Presentation was scheduled; this monthly meeting was allocated to June VHF Contest planning.

Old Business

  • Tuesday evening SSB net: Lawrence (VA3IQ) proposes taking over the duties once his antenna stack and mast are installed, which is currently happening. He is planning on resuming the Net in September. Shared net control duties is also considered. Open item.
  • Bert (VE2ZAZ) on the 2026 June VHF Contest:
    • Ray Burrell will load up his trailer prior to the Contest setup Friday, as he did last year. He will need help for that task. Clayton (VE3IRR) was assigned the action of dispatching the help. Clayton confirmed that Tyler (VA3DGN) will show up at Ray’s home on Wednesday to help him with the loading effort. Closed item.
  • Lawrence (VA3IQ) on summer activities: The May MAD was cancelled. Closed item.

New Business

  • An unofficial Club meeting will be required on June 8th for final VHF Contest readiness checks. This will be an informal Zoom meeting, so minutes will not be produced. Lawrence (VA3IQ) to schedule a Zoom meeting and send an invite email on our WCARC groups.io reflector. Lawrence reserved the Zoom meeting during this monthly meeting. Closed item.
  • The June monthly meeting was going to take place on June 15th, which is the Contest tear-down day. Bert (VE2ZAZ) moved that the June monthly meeting be re-scheduled one week later, on June 22nd. Lawrence (VA3IQ) seconded the motion. A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried. Closed item.
  • Club membership list: Ted (VE3TD) has asked for a membership list for MeshCore mapping purpose. Mike (VA3TEC) will produce that list and provide it to Ted. Open item.

June VHF Contest Planning Discussion

An informal discussion led by Bert (VE2ZAZ), the Club’s VHF Contest coordinator, took place. Action items were dispatched to many of our members. The participation commitments for the setup and tear-down days appears somewhat insufficient at the moment. However effort will be put to reach out members who were not present at the meeting to solicit their involvement. Another final preparation meeting will be held on the Monday preceding the Contest.
