Meeting Agenda

The meeting agenda was displayed prior to the meeting, and is reproduced below. Lawrence (VA3IQ) moved that the agenda be adopted as published. Bert (VE2ZAZ) seconded. A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Secretary’s Report

  • Bert posted a draft version of the December 2025 AGM minutes on the Club website prior to this meeting. Moved by him that the minutes be adopted as posted. The motion was seconded by Lawrence (VA3IQ). A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.
  • The 2025 Financial Statement and President Report were provided to Clayton (VE3IRR), our webmaster, for posting on the Club website, but have not been posted to this date.
  • RAC Affiliation and Insurance Program: Bert has completed the application process. He is still waiting for a response from RAC.
  • Bert has submitted an “Annual Return for a Corporation” form to the Ontario business registry in order to update the list of directors, following the elections.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Glenn, the Treasurer, was absent.
  • The President, Mike (VA3TEC), is assisting Glenn. He is working on becoming an authorized signee for the bank account.
  • Mike (VA3TEC) handed $150 to Ray Burrell as compensation for his expenditures at the 2023, 2024 and 2025 VHF contests.

Vice President’s Report

  • Lawrence (VA3IQ) is working on organizing an in-person regular members meeting the Spring of 2026.
  • Upcoming monthly meeting presentations:
    • Being Planned (speakers shall provide a synopsis of their presentation to Lawrence):
      • Wayne (VE3CZO) - Selecting the right capacitor for an application.
      • Mike (VA3TEC) - IP400 Presentation.
      • Lawrence (VA3IQ) - Logging software acting as Rover controller.
      • Tom (VA3NFA) / Ted (VE3EDE) / Lawrence (VA3IQ) - AREDN Status
      • Lawrence (VA3IQ) - How to not brick AREDN nodes.
  • Once again, tariffs are hitting the ham community hard. We see small amateur radio equipment suppliers disappearing.

Director’s Report

Robert inquired about using the Diefenbunker location for a monthly meeting. Issues to resolve are the closing time in the evening and the members’ willingness to drive this far in the dark. He will carry on investigating. Lawrence (VA3IQ) proposed publishing a survey on our WCARC groups.io to find out whether our members would be willing to participate.

President’s Report

  • The President participated in a MeshCore meeting. There is a possibility of synergy between the Clubs using MeshCore.
  • Our local Club mesh network may grow, with the addition of the Diefenbunker site.

Presentation(s)

Bert (VE2ZAZ) - My experience with, and implementation of a Chinese 23cm 100-Watt Power Amplifier

Old Business

  • Bert (VE2ZAZ) highlighted the need to update the Officer signatures on file at the Alterna bank, as we have had a change of directorship at this AGM. Open item.
  • Glenn (VE3XRA), Tuesday evening SSB net: Lately, Glenn has had a harder time hosting the net due to personal matters. He suggested that the Club Officers discuss, in the upcoming months, whether to carry on with holding the net. Open item.
  • Clayton (VE3IRR), Webmaster: The various Club contact addresses shown on the Club website and on QRZ.com may be outdated. He suggested revising them to reflect the changes of directorship. Clayton will send a list of these addresses to the Club Officers, and the exercise will be done outside of this meeting. Closed item.

New Business

  • Bert (VE2ZAZ) will contact the Corkery Community Centre to inquire about the building availability for the June VHF contest. If the building is not available, he will, once again, turn over to the Kinburn Association.
  • Bert requested that the Treasurer create a members spreadsheet and post it online for the Officers to consult or modify. A Google Sheet located on a Google Drive would be the ideal medium.

Show and tell / Round Table

  • Georges-André (VE2VAB): He informed the members that the CRAO Winter Field Day will take place next weekend in Parc du Coteau at 60 Louis-Riel street in Gatineau. Everyone is welcome.
  • Bert (VE2ZAZ): VCF (Vintage Computer Federation) is coming to Montréal. It will take place next weekend, January 24th-25th, in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. The event is a convention/meet on vintage computing.
  • Lawrence (VA3IQ): The AREDN Canadian mesh is growing. He is now connected to Perth and to Québec City. More connections will come later.
  • Lawrence (VA3IQ): He found some UV-resistant ABS that prints very well. However ABS printing produces nasty fumes, despite proper fume recuperation.
