The meeting was opened by the Vice President, Lawrence (VA3IQ), at 7:15 pm. There were no visitors attending the meeting.

Meeting Agenda

The meeting agenda, which these meeting minutes follow, was published on the Club website prior to this meeting, and is reproduced below. Bert (VE2ZAZ) moved that the agenda be adopted as published. Glenn (VE3XRA) seconded. A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Secretary’s Report

Bert posted a draft version of the July 2025 regular meeting minutes on the Club website prior to this meeting. Moved by him that the minutes be adopted as posted. The motion was seconded by Lawrence (VA3IQ). A unanimous vote in favour of the motion took place, and the motion was carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Nothing new to report. Glenn will report the number of regular members back to the Officers in the upcoming days.

Vice President’s Report

  • Upcoming monthly meeting presentations:
    • September: Bert (VE2ZAZ) will present his tower mounted 10 GHz system.
  • Being Planned (speakers shall provide a synopsis of their presentation to Lawrence):
    • HamsOverIP and DMR linking by the folks of HamsOverIP Canada.
    • Wayne (VE3CZO): Selecting the right capacitor for an application.
    • Mike (VA3TEC): IP400 Presentation.
  • Lawrence mentioned that a lot of potential speakers are dropping out.
  • Lawrence is looking for a December AGM location.
  • He mentioned that many amateur radio antenna manufacturers were considering closing their business, and some have already shut down. The main reason is the higher cost and availability of aluminum stock, a consequence of the U.S. administration’s tariff policies.

Carp hamfest: Bert (VE2ZAZ) confirmed that he had reserved a table at the upcoming Carp hamfest. A discussion took place on table setup and manning. A few members confirmed their availability for manning the table. In addition, a few members will brings items to show off at the table.

Ask the Club

  • Mike (VA3TEC) asked for suggestions on building a beefy DC power supply for an 800W 222 MHz amplifier.
