Opening

The meeting was opened by the President, Clayton (VE3IRR) at 19:00. Two visitors were in attendance (VE3WMB, VE3MKX).

Secretary’s Report

Clayton (VE3IRR) introduced the minutes of the September meeting as posted on the WCARC website. Doug (VE3XK) asked that the August minutes be amended to add Remi (VA3DRI)’s name to the list of members who donated for the 70 cm beacon antenna. Moved by the Secretary that the September minutes be adopted as posted. Seconded by Doug (VE3XK). The motion was carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Robert (VE3BE) reported 27 paid up members for 2019 and a bank balance of $1,700.48. There is also $2,000 which is split up into 2 term deposits which will be maturing in 2020. Robert mentioned the donation of the sale of Clayton’s equipment at the Carp Hamfest.

Vice President’s Report

Jeremy explained the meeting space situation.

President’s Report

The question was asked if the WCARC mailing list was going to move because Yahoo groups is removing some of its functionality. Clayton is looking at moving the list to Groups.io. He also notified the group that he will present a motion at the November meeting to raise the membership dues from $25 to $30 as the Club’s expenses have gone up.

Mike Babineau (VE3WMB) gave a presentation on a Pico Balloon WSPR Beacon.

Beacons

Doug (VE3XK) reported that the beacons are all functioning well. There was a report of a key click issue due to a local FM receiver being overloaded.

  • Bert (VE2ZAZ) announced that he has a couple of items for sale.
  • Wayne (VE3CZO) mentioned that he and Luc (VE3JGL) went to Microwave Update.
  • Mike (VE3WMB) talked about a hamfest in the GTA.
  • Georges-André (VE2VAB) asked if anyone had comments about the transverters from the Transverter Store.
  • Peter (VA3PJ) mentioned a ground station transmitter that he designed in 1953 that operated at 152.5 MHz and communicated with balloons.
